SOUTH JORDAN — A 7-year-old girl was critically injured Tuesday afternoon when she was hit by a truck while attempting to cross 11800 South at 5510 West.
It was shortly after 5 p.m. when the girl and two other children started across the street, according to South Jordan Police Sgt. Sam Winkler. The children had a green light and a walk symbol on the pedestrian traffic signal, he said.
A truck driving north on 5510 West had a green light to turn left but not a green arrow, Winkler said. The truck driver, not seeing the children, proceeded through the intersection and hit two of the children.
Emergency crews responded and treated an 8-year-old boy for minor injuries. The 7-year-old girl was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital with critical but non-life threatening injuries, Winkler said.
The driver of the truck, a 61-year-old man, was cooperative with investigators and received a citation, Winkler said.
Editor's note: South Jordan police originally reported the injured girl's age as 9. This article was corrected when Sgt. Winkler confirmed she is actually 7 years old.
