FISH HAVEN, Idaho — The crystal blue waters of Bear Lake might seem peaceful, but the lake is surrounded by some boring people, according to the website AreaVibes.com.
"These people who are coming up with these ideas sound kind of boring to me," said Chris Kerper.
Stop at Glady's Place in Fish Haven, Idaho and it won't take long to find people who have some strong opinions when it comes to these neighboring states.
"I don't think it's boring, it's actually awesome,” said William Sherwood. He lives on the Idaho side of the border, which is actually the only state more boring than Utah, according to AreaVibes.com.
"Just because it's rural doesn't mean that it's boring, in my opinion,” Sherwood said.
AreaVibes.com took a look at population numbers for those over age 65. They say households with children are boring, too. The married population? Boring. All of these things, plus a low population density, they say, make Idaho and Utah kind of lame.
"She has a daughter and she's not boring,” Sherwood said, pointing at a coworker.
There are always people out there to buck the trend, even if some of them tend to agree with AreaVibe's findings.
“It’s true probably,” said Alex Bennion. “The only thing to do here is like camping, and fishing, and outdoor stuff. It's definitely a boring state."
You have to consider this snoozer of a list doesn't take into account local attractions or activities, just the people, their age and their family status.
"What's wrong with being married?” Kerper said. “I feel that those people are not married and they're probably single people who don't have a girlfriend or significant other to rely on to go out and have fun with."
Some people think the method behind it all is kind of bogus, but for others, there might be some truth to it.
“I'm bouncing as soon as summer's over,” Bennion said. "I’m going to Washington, because that's a fun state."
If you find yourself at the border of boring and more boring, according to one website, Sherwood invites you to come to Idaho.
"Come and get a shake and a sandwich, and we'll show you that it's definitely not boring in Idaho.”
