UINTAH, Weber County — A man died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday on eastbound I-84, police said.
Multiple people pulled the man out of a crashed Cadillac Escalade on the side of the freeway, but he had already died, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.
The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. near the border of Davis and Weber counties. Nobody witnessed the crash itself, Royce said, but police believe the man, in his 60s, veered off the roadway and struck a barrier "at what appears to be freeway speed."
The man was not wearing a seat belt and was killed on impact, according to police. Nobody other than the driver was in the vehicle.
Several motorists pulled over and helped recover the man's body just as the vehicle burst into flames, according to Royce. None of them were injured.
The man's name wasn't released Wednesday pending notification of family members.
