SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A statue of Abraham Lincoln as a young man has been dedicated on the campus of the University of Illinois Springfield.
The 6-foot-4 polished bronze statue is titled "The Young Lawyer." It was unveiled Tuesday on the Quad of the 46-year-old university
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/1NqAkZs ) that the sculptor is George Lundeen of Loveland, Colorado. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and was a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar studying in Italy.
Funding came from the John N. Chester Estate Fund. It's an endowed gift used to purchase items that maintain an attractive appearance at the university's three campuses.
The school is home to the Chancellor Naomi B. Lynn Distinguished Chair for Lincoln Studies — currently Lincoln scholar Michael Burlingame.
